Full disclosure: i was provided with a copy of this book by odyssey books in exchange for an honest review.

"With technology becoming so complex and overriding ethical boundaries and our ever-expanding push into space, we have to develop our senses to their fullest potential. We have to evolve faster." These are the words her mother spoke the night before she left on an EASA-sponsored mission in space. She never came back.

After her mother’s funeral, her brother also joined EASA. He went missing too.
Having lost both mother and brother, Britta Tate does not want to go with EASA when they come for her at age thirteen, but she doesn’t have much choice. They process her as a psychic intern and begin a grueling regiment of training. Ten years later, she is accomplished at many psychic abilities, but she is frustrated that her astral searches have been unable to track down her brother. Perhaps he just doesn’t want her to find him.

And why does the number forty-nine keep appearing?
It's been a long time.... I hope you have all been fairing as well as can be during these trying times. I hope you are staying safe and keeping you mind and body busy while this pandemic and quarantine slowly comes to a close.

I finished this book back in March but have not gotten around to writing my review until now, so let's get to it. Likes, Dislikes, and Who Should Read...

Dislikes:

My biggest dislike with this book is that it is a novella. It's only 276 pages long and I wanted a full fleshed out world and storyline that a novella just can't provide you. There is a time jump and while that doesn't bother me I feel like so many parts of the story that I wanted to know more about I didn't have the chance due to it not being a full length novel. I just couldn't get as invested in the characters because I wanted to learn so much more about them, and I couldn't delve into the world because at the back of my mind their were to many unanswered question about what came before.

There was a slight confusion for me at the ending with one of the characters, I think it was as simple as a name not changed during editing.. but it made the story flow a little confusing for a bit... other than that the story was quite entertaining and a quick sci-fi read.

Likes:

From what we could decipher of the world it was fascinating. I loved learning about how the people were living both above and below ground and I am always in love with a good sci-fi adventure story where you get to explore a whole other planet!

Britta was a great protagonist. She was smart and spunky and full of confidence, and I thoroughly enjoyed the family dynamics. There was also some political intrigue navigating through EASA.

All in all a very enjoyable, quick read!

This book is perfect for those wanting to delve in the sci-fi genre.. it's light so it's perfect for beginners. I also think this might appeal to those who like paranormal stories and want something unique and different from the typical paranormal books.

But what do you think?? Did you love this book? Did you hate it? is it on your TBR?? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!
