Books and Book Series I Did Not Finish: October - Partials Sequence and Dust Land Series

Oh My... Here we go my DNF list for the Month!

I have decided that every 4-6 months I am going to do a blog poll and pull all of the books in my DNF list and see if there is 1 book or series my fellow book lovers feel I should push through and finish. Hopefully you'll take part! So far there are 5 books on my list which probably means I should do a poll soon.

But this month I DNF'd 2 series, technically 4 books but only attempted two of them. These will be off to my local Value Village for an unhaul very shortly. So here are the books/series, the why, and the who I think would like to read these books as I never want to discourage others from picking these books up.

Partials Sequence by Dan Wells: On Goodreads

Partials Sequence is a YA dystopian series that delves into the more Sci-fi aspect of that genre. It is post apocalyptic dealing with AI and Biological warfare. I have read the first book and dipped a bit into the second but as I said will not be continuing with the series. I just couldn't find the attachment I once had with the characters again. I read the first book back in 2012 so after 7 years trying to continue the series didn't work out. That being said, my first read through I gave partials a 4 out of 5 stars. I found it intriguing going through this world.

Synopsis:
Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with Partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans—has decimated the population. Reduced to only tens of thousands by a weaponized virus to which only a fraction of humanity is immune, the survivors in North America have huddled together on Long Island. But sixteen-year-old Kira is determined to find a solution. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that that the survival of both humans and Partials rests in her attempts to answer questions about the war's origin that she never knew to ask.

It really takes you into depth on the morality of survival. If kids can no longer be born with the ability to live past a few days what roll as a society do you have to continue the human race.

I think this book is perfect for those Dystopian genre lovers who also like Sci-fi and like the idea of struggling with that thin line between what's right and what's best. It also has a lot of the "what is human?" question. If any of this sounds intriguing do give it a read!

Dust Land Series by Moira Young: On Goodreads

Dust Lands is another Dystopian Post Apocalyptic series however quite different from Partials. I have only read book 1 of the series and I gave it 5 stars back in 2012 when I read it. I think my rating would probably change a bit if I did re-read this book now. My only problem with this book is the language. It has a new found slang spin on the English language which is a deliberate writing style the Moira Young decided to use for the characters of this story. For me it was a struggle to get through and to allow myself to be immersed in the story. You can't go into this book expecting absolute coherence in full sentences and full words.

Synopsis:
Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when four cloaked horsemen capture Lugh, Saba's world is shattered, and she embarks on a quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the outside world, Saba discovers she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba's unrelenting search for Lugh stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

This book takes you on an adventure with Saba and it is intense and unrelenting and that's why this book was great! There is even a crow to fall in love with. I loved the main character and her story was incredibly intriguing, her personality great entertainment.

Who would this be perfect for? Someone who is a dystopian lover again, who likes light fantasy and adventure quests. Most importantly someone who doesn't mind immersing themselves in a world like there own but not quite. You will have to get around the language barrier but some loved it because it really made you feel the loss if civilization as we know it. If any of this sounds intriguing be sure to give it a read!

I have also taken a pause on Shadow of the Wolf. Despite knowing I am going to end up loving this series as I continue to read it, for some reason I found myself in a sort of reading slump that I could not get past. So I am putting it at the bottom of my November TBR list and will revisit it at the end of November to finish it off. I have in the mean time picked up Scythe which I am already 50 pages in and LOVING the book!
