Short Reads and Manga - Quick Book Reviews of December and January

Welcome back to Renee Reads on Life. It has been a while since I have written, sorry about that, but as we know life happens. Today I will be reviewing my last 3 reads with some quick reviews to help you determine if these books or series are for you!

1. The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald

3 out of 5 stars
While most of us worry about the steady onslaught of old age, Benjamin Button had a much more odious dilemma. Benjamin was born, in all appearance, as an old man. Follow the pleasurable tale of his life as he grapples with the problem of constantly getting younger.
If you think you are going into this book knowing how it will be because you've seen the movie than think again. This short read (only 64 pages or 1 hr audio book) was quite the intriguing feet. Almost satirical in it's structure the book will certainly keep you entertained for the very short length of it's book. It is a much more realistic albeit still very weird in comparison to the movie.

Looking for your next great read?

2. Manga Series - Library Wars: Love and War by Kiiro Yumi

4.5 out of 5 stars for entire series
In the near future, the federal government creates a committee to rid society of books it deems unsuitable. The libraries vow to protect their collections, and with the help of local governments, form a military group to defend themselves--the Library Forces!
As a reading fan I fell absolutely in love with the Library Wars manga series. It is filled with action, political intrigue, romance, and great friendships. The characters are both charming and captivating, the character building is sublime. The series is essentially about saving freedom of speech, standing up for what you believe in, and inclusiveness. Great read for anyone and also a perfect first manga read! There are 15 volumes in total.

3. The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice #1) by John Flanagan

They have always scared him in the past — the Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways. The villagers believe the Rangers practice magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now 15-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger's apprentice. What he doesn't yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom.
This book actually caught me by surprise. All of the reviews made me think it may be to young of a YA series to enjoy but wrong was I. It was very entertaining, the character's were thoroughly developed and well fleshed out, good world building, and fun action! Will was just so pleasant to watch grow but my favourite was Horace, the depth of his growing up and coming into his own, actually learning from his mistakes, which is often unusual in YA series, just all around awesome. I listened to this as an audio book and the narrator was great! I will definitely be continuing this series!

Well we are all caught up on my previous read reviews! I hope you were able to find a book above that you want to read and get immersed in!! Happy Reading, my next blog I hope to talk about the
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Series which I believe flies to far under the radar for such a spectacular read!
