20th Century Boys Manga by Naoki Urasawa's - My Thoughts

So if you are a Manga fan (check), a Sci-fi fan (check), weird stories and even weirder characters fan (check) then I think you need to pick this series up.. and even if this is your first ever Manga.. again grab this series even if it's from your local library... just read it!!!

Just note this is not a review really.. I have decided to give a full review of the series when it's finished and I just finished book 7 of 22!!!! So.... it's going to be a while.. but I definitely want to get into some discussions so although this blog is new I hope I get some readers on here to talk shop about this epic Manga and maybe even get some newbies to join in and read along with me. I generally read at least 3 volumes a month max 6. They are fairly short reads and I can get through 1 in a day but I also have a ton of other books to read so I try and be fair!

So before I get in to this here is the good ol' goodreads synopsis of the story:

Mankind would not have made the new age, encountering the crisis at the end of the last century, that almost wiped them out... if it weren't for "them". In 1969, "they" who were still in their youth, created a symbol. In 1997, as the footsteps of the disaster slowly starts to show out, the symbol revives. This is the story about several boys, that save the world.

This story delves mainly around Kenji Endo a music loving, hard working, awkward individual turned uncle pappa and his misfit friends. Delving 2 timelines at first them as kids and then again as adults and exploring their clubhouse where they envisioned the ultimate bad guy and write it down in "the prophecy book". 20 years later and all they envisioned starts coming to light... a cult forms,,, and the end of the world ensues. It's all up to Kenji and his misfit friends to save the world... as it seems.

What I love about this series is I am 7 volumes in and while we understand the idea of the bad guy, we still don't understand who they are or why they are doing it. It's so captivating to jump into this story and never get a moment to breath in all the tension, action, and mystery unraveling, yet there still be this ever growing WHO? still going on in the back of our minds.

You follow a few points of view, dive deep in multiple characters as they grow and change and you time jump 3 times... yes 3 so far.. their is another time jump around the end of vol 5 and you're just not ready for it... I mean that cliffhanger though....

My favorite character has to be Ocho also known as Shogun who always wears a smirk of knowing way more than he lets on. He seems fearless and confident but I think their is so much more to be found underneath it all and I can't wait to find out more!!!

SO what is all this about?? WELL I am trying to get you to pick up this Manga... pick it up read it and come back here and talk about it! So far I am loving this series and have rated each vol. so far a 4 or 5 out of 5 star rating! So get to it!!!!
