Well before I get started let me just say, if you're a fan of audiobooks please do listen to the book. The narrator's (Steve West) voice is just divine and honestly is what truly made me appreciate this book, could not stop listening! That being said... I can say that I don't know how I feel about this dualogy yet. I liked this book but I didn't love it and while I will read the second book I am going into it a bit hesitant.
SO here are my dislikes, likes, and wrap-up.. and of course spoilers down below.
Dislikes:
Ok let's get this out of the way.. I have read some romances in my time and some (very few) but some I enjoyed.. usually if they had something else in them like fantasy elements, or scifi. But I don't generally like romances and Strange the Dreamer is a romance.. at least half of it is. It is half way between a fantasy and a romance, and that was my biggest dislike with the book, well that and Minya's voice.. it is quite creepy lol!.
Likes:
However despite the romance it was an incredibly developed fantasy. The magic system, world building, character development were all incredible! Laini Taylor weaves a good tale and I soaked it all up! If I was more of a romance lover this would be a 5 out of 5 as it was truly well written. I enjoyed how deep the characters arc went how they evolved or devolved and even the twist at the end.
I would recommend this book for lovers of fantasy (even if you don't enjoy romance you will still probably really like this book as everything else is on the up and up) and lovers of romance who want something new then their typical reads.
Wrap-up:
All in all good read and I do plan on continuing. Again get it as an audio as it really does give you an all encompassing experience! But what did you think?? Did you enjoy this book.. have you read or will you continue reading this duology?? Let me know your thoughts below!
